The Breed

Do a quick internet search for “English bulldogs” and you’ll find a large amount of information about this fabulous breed.  Unfortunately, most of it is negative.  The English bulldog breed has been known to have slew of health issues.  The eyes, skin, hip, and elbows of an English bulldog are all prone to issues.  Cherry eye, entropian, and dry eyes plague the beautiful eyes of an English bulldog.  Allergies and alopecia are some of the skin issues.  The elbows and hips of an English bulldog are prone to issues too.

What I want you to understand about the breed is there are TONS of sickly English bulldogs. Why? Because of bad breeders.  Some breeders only care about making a quick buck and don’t care about the life of each and every puppy they create.  Bad breeders go hand-in-hand with people who are looking for a cheap bulldog.  If people would stop buying English bulldogs that are for sale for $1,000-$1,500, the bad breeders would be out of business.  People put their selfish wants ahead of the life and health of the English bulldog breed.   For each person that buys a CHEAP English bulldog, a backyard breeder makes money.  This money keeps him in business.

There are tons of English bulldogs tossed away to shelters and rescues (like the Georgia English Bulldog Rescue) DAILY.  People purchase cheap bulldogs and then can’t afford the necessary medical treatment because it’s so expensive.  They have no choice but to surrender the dog to the rescue.  The rescues and shelters are overrun with wonderful dogs whose only problem is that they were created by a person who didn’t care about their life.

I’m assuming that if you’re reading this, you must love English bulldogs.  You may be wondering what YOU can do to ensure that you don’t perpetuate the problem of the breed. The main thing you can do to help the English bulldog breed is to PURCHASE FROM A RESPONSIBLE BREEDER.  We aren’t the only responsible English bulldog breeder, there are others, and we aren’t saying that everyone should just purchase an English bulldog puppy from us.  We do, however, want you to purchase from a responsible breeder so that this spectacular breed doesn’t have further damage.
